In organizing its offers, PKP Intercity is making
reductions to the price list for tickets for journeys in the popular couchette
cars. From 10 September a passenger travelling in a four-place or six-place
couchette (with bedding), will pay PLN 8 less. The price of places in
couchettes for passengers of up to 26 and over 60 years of age will fall by PLN
10.50.

“The
price list change is aimed at reducing the disproportion between two products,
that is, the couchette with bedding and the so-called Cheap Couchette,” says Marcin Celejewski, PKP Intercity
S.A. board member for commercial affairs. “As a result, we will be
increasing access to couchettes of a higher level of comfort.”
Ticket pricing for the
Cheap Couchette offer is being made more realistic. A ticket for a place in a
six-person compartment without bedding (the ticket including a single-use
sheet) now costs PLN 33 (previously PLN 25.50). The Cheap Couchette price list
was last changed five years ago.

A carriage with places for lying, a so-called couchette, is a passenger car with compartments which are fitted with couches, for travel during the day and at night. The cost of a journey in a couchette includes the price of a ticket as well as an additional ticket for the place to be occupied (reservation). These can be purchased via the e-IC online ticket sales system, at ticket windows (through both of these channels no later than two hours before the departure of the train from the starting station) and – while places are available – from a WARS steward directly. WARS is responsible for the sleeping car service and is a PKP Intercity subsidiary.
