Simply TICKET - questions and answers
1. What will the Simply TICKET solution involve?
Simply TICKET will
replace the the ticket and seat reservation used thus far. The passenger will
receive a ticket which will indicate the numbers of the train, carriage and
seat. In the event that there are no places to sit on a given train, the
customer will be informed of this at the purchase stage and will decide alone
whether to take the train despite this, without the guarantee, or to select
another train.
2. Where will it be possible to buy Simply TICKET, and from
when?
It will be possible to
buy a ticket indicating a place to sit from 19 March of this year through all
distribution channels, i.e. at the traditional ticket window, via the e-IC
system and a mobile telephone (the BILkom – 'mobile TICKET' – system), at
ticket machines and on the train.
3. What about a passenger who bought a ticket without a space
assigned before 19 March?
If a passenger bought
a ticket in advance for a journey on 19 March or later for a train on which
reservation of a space did not apply, it will be possible to visit a ticket
window before the beginning of the journey and at no additional charge exchange
the ticket for a new one indicating a place to sit. However, in the event that
the traveller does not visit a ticket window and boards the train with this
ticket, any free space may be taken, but only until the arrival of a traveller
with this space indicated. If, on the other hand, the traveller would like a
guaranteed space on a given train, an unpaid supplementary ticket indicating a
place to sit should be obtained (at a ticket window or on the train, without charge
for the issue of a ticket).
For the initial weeks
in which the new clearance rules apply on trains not thus far covered by
reservation of a space, provision will be made for a certain pool of spaces for
travellers who purchased a ticket for a journey before 19 March of this year.
In addition, since 11
March we have been informing travellers of the introduction of the new
clearance rules by way of our website, leaflets distributed at stations, press
materials, a film shown on monitors at ticket windows, Facebook, Twitter and
announcements made on trains.
4. What if there are
no longer any spaces on a given train? Will it be possible to buy a ticket
without a space indicated?
If on a given train
there are no longer any free places to sit, the customer will be informed of
this and will decide alone whether to make the journey without the guarantee of
a place to sit or, instead, to travel on another train.
5. Will the price of
tickets rise because of the changes?
No. In the case of EIC
and Ex trains and first class on TLK, where so far reservation of a space has
applied, the ticket price for a journey will be the same as the current sum of
the charge for the journey and the seat reservation. However, the ticket price
for a journey in second class on a TLK train will not change and will
cost as much as it currently does, in addition to which the traveller will –
where spaces are available – have a place to sit indicated with the ticket for
the journey.
6. Will the price of a
ticket without a seat be lower?
The ticket price for
the journey is not subject to the possibility that a place to sit is indicated.
In every case, whether the traveller has a place to sit indicated or decides to
make the journey on a train with a lack of free space, the charge for the given
journey will be the same. This solution is to encourage our customers to plan a
journey, which will allow us to better manage rolling stock and mean that a
ticket will cost as much as 10% less.
7. Is there a limit to
tickets sold for a given train?
As a mass public
transport operator, PKP Intercity cannot limit the sale of tickets for its
trains. This means that if on a given train there are no longer any free places
to sit, the traveller will be able to purchase a ticket for the journey without
a place to sit indicated, but this is always a decision taken by the traveller
at the ticket purchase stage.
8. Will a passenger
who has a season ticket pay extra for the guarantee of a seat?
A passenger who has a
season ticket may on the train take any place to sit which is free, but
only until the arrival of a traveller with this place indicated. If the
passenger would like a guaranteed seat on a given train, an unpaid
supplementary ticket indicating a place to sit should be obtained at a ticket
window.
9. Can a passenger
with a season ticket obtain a seat reservation for a single day, or even for an
entire month at once?
Supplementary tickets
with a place to sit indicated may be purchased in advance 30 days before the
journey. This means that a supplementary ticket may be obtained for consecutive
journeys on each of these days.
10. Where will a
passenger with a season ticket be able to obtain a seat reservation?
A supplementary ticket
with a place to sit indicated may be purchased at a ticket window or on the
train. In addition, network ticket holders may also purchase such a ticket via
the e-IC system. The purchase of such tickets is not compulsory – a traveller
with a season ticket may take any place to sit which is free, but only until
the arrival of a traveller with this place indicated.
11. Will a passenger
be able to obtain several seat reservations for several trains?
A ticket for a single
journey – where places to sit on the given train are available – will be issued
with a place to sit indicated. Only season ticket holders will be able to
purchase alone supplementary tickets with a place to sit indicated.
12. A passenger is
taking a train travelling from Przemyśl to Szczecin. The passenger has bought a
ticket for the stage between Przemyśl and Kraków. Can another passenger buy a
ticket for this same train, for the same place, from Kraków to Szczecin, say?
Yes, because the
purchase of a ticket with a place to sit indicated for a journey along just one
stage of the route of a given train does not block this space for the entire
route.
13. What if a
passenger buys a ticket without a space indicated, after which the carrier
attaches a carriage and there are more seats available?
Before beginning a
journey a traveller always has the right to exchange one ticket for another. An
exchange may be performed only once – each further instance is treated as the
return of a ticket.
A ticket without a
place to sit indicated will be issued only in the event that on a given train
there are no longer any free places to sit. Holding such a ticket does not,
however, mean that the entire journey need be made standing. A traveller with
such a ticket may take any free space, but only until the arrival of a
traveller with this space indicated.
14. What about charges
for sleeping or lying spaces and spaces in a management compartment?
The rules for
reserving and taking advantage of these spaces and purchasing supplementary
tickets have not changed.
15. What about
journeys along domestic stages on international trains returning from abroad?
For a journey along a
domestic stage on an international train, a traveller may purchase a ticket
with a place to sit indicated according to the same rules as a passenger
travelling domestically.
16. What about Bilet
podróżnika (Traveller's Ticket) and Bilet weekendowy (Weekend Ticket)?
Holders of these
season tickets will be able to take a free space on a train, but only until the
arrival of a traveller with this space indicated. If, however, they would like
the guarantee of a seat, an unpaid supplementary ticket indicating a place to
sit should be obtained.
17. Take the example
of a change of trains involving two TLKs. One TLK is late and because of this
the second is missed by a whisker. Up to now I could simply go into the station
at which I am changing and buy a ticket for a later, alternative train and
travel on this, simply returning the unused ticket. How will this look now?
The exchange of
tickets will take place on the same basis as before.
18. What guarantee is
there that following the introduction of the Simply TICKET solution trains will
not be crowded?
Thanks to the new
solution, we will be able to monitor the use of trains, which will allow us to
adjust the number of carriages to the real demand for space. At the beginning
of the year we introduced the principle that Wcześniej = Taniej, that is,
Earlier = Cheaper. Such offers are to encourage our customers to plan a journey
in advance, which allows us to better manage rolling stock and means that a
ticket may cost as much as 10% less.
19. What about bicycle
transport, given that on trains covered by full reservation of space this is
not possible?
We are considering the
comfort of passengers transporting bicycles and thus providing for special
carriages (with specific spaces) in all rolling stock investments which we carry
out. There will be ever more of these with time. Detailed information relating
to bicycle transport is available at our website, www.intercity.pl.
