1 September - Intercity sets off the track!
A company PKP Intercity is separated from PKP group which aims at providing long-distance passenger transport. Trains of the following categories: Express (Ex), InterCity (IC), EuroCity (EC) and trains comprising exclusively of sleeping cars (WL) and with places to lie down (Bc) set off the track.

Modern hall at Grochów is ready
420 metres long, 3 tracks, 18 repair stands – this is how the whole-train hall looks like at the holding station Warszawa Grochów after modernisation. This is the most modern technical-assembly hall in Eastern Europe and one of the most modern ones in Europe, where trains are prepared to set off their routes.
VIP waiting room
PKP Intercity opens a waiting room for first class passengers, that is, the VIP Zone at Dworzec Centralny.

A process of taking over locomotives from the company PKP Cargo starts. Locomotives registered as the Company's property are repainted.
New locomotives are coming
Bid for a purchase of 10 multi-system locomotives resolved! The company Siemens (locomotives type ES64 U4) shall be the supplier thereof.
New employees in Intercity
A process of taking over 2,000 employees from the company PKP Cargo connected with locomotives’ functioning (train drivers, train drivers’ assistants, instructors, workshop and administration employees) starts.
More trains, more employees
PKP Intercity takes over servicing inter-voivodeship fast trains with over 1,900 cars, 69 locomotives, 14 electric traction units and over 3.5 thousand of staff from the former company PKP Przewozy Regionalne (as an organised part of the enterprise).

Express way to Lvov
PKP Intercity together with Ukrainian railways launches a new international night train “Lvov Express” in a relation Wrocław – Krakow – Lvov. In November, the train participates in support action for Ukraine suffering an outbreak of a flu epidemic – we are transporting donations from Lesser Poland authorities free of charge.
Film hits all summer!
For the first time a film car being a part of summer project Orange Summer Cinema appears on tracks.
An alternative for station’s office tickets
The first ticket machines, that is vending machines for selling tickets, appear at Dworzec Centralny, in Warsaw.

Realisation of “Kraków Berlin Xprs" project by Stary Teatr in Krakow and Maxim Gorky Theatre in Berlin. Various performances, happenings and film shows are organised during ten hours of the course of EuroCity Wawel train to Hamburg, along 529 km of the route as well as at indirect stations.

10 years with you
On 2 September 2011 the company PKP Intercity celebrates 10-years of existence. On this occasion, we organise the biggest in the history of our company contest on Facebook – we give away 3,652 vouchers on free tickets. This number is not random – tenth birthday equals this exact number of days of our activity in the transport market, in Poland.
From Paris, through Poland, to Moscow
PKP Intercity tightens cooperation with Russian Railways. As a result, a train on the relation Moscow-Paris sets off starting from 2011/12 timetable. It shall be led by our newest locomotive “Husarz” through whole route on Polish tracks and a restaurant car shall be attached thereto by PKP Intercity at Warszawa Wschodnia station.

As of 1 November 2011 PKP Intercity Headquarters changes its seat. From now on we work at ul. Żelazna 59a, in Warsaw.
2012

In January an electronic system monitoring courses of trains shall be available to everybody - you can check if your train arrives on time in the Internet.
New website
On 6 February the Company’s new website is launched, where you can find a ticket inspector Rafał – a virtual assistant ready to help 24 hours a day.
Ticket not necessarily paper
As of 15 April a ticket bought in electronic system of selling e-IC tickets can be presented during ticket control on any mobile device.
First international connections in e-IC system
On 2 May the first stage of introducing international tickets – pilot sales on railway connections from Poland to Germany - into the Internet selling system takes place.
“Railway moves fans”
At the beginning of May 20 locomotives are pasted over with colours of Polish national stadiums and colours of countries participating in Euro 2012 championships. Two most beautiful locomotives - with an image of a stadium from Poznań and an image of PGE Arena from Gdańsk – are selected in the contest.

A new lounge for PKP Intercity Passengers of 1st class at Dworzec Centralny; now, entry at ul. Emilii Plater.
Football championships Euro2012
Over 1,000 trains, including approximately 70 additional ones are launched – over half a million of seats are provided, whereas, at the same time, Polish stadiums gather around 640 thousand.

Berlin-Gdynia-Express
An opening of daily connection Gdynia – Berlin – on 6 June, at 6:06 a.m. premiere train connecting the capital city of Germany with Polish seaside sets off.
Weekend Film Car
4th edition of the auction “Orange Kino Letnie” starts off – a film car travels between Sopot and Zakopane in TLK train “Monciak – Krupówki”, whereas, each evening you can watch films in the open air at the Sopot molo and Krupówki in Zakopane.
Young Traveller’s Zone
On 9 July, a car being a playground for the youngest sets off the track. We will be travelling whole holidays between Warsaw and Gdynia by Ex Jantar train.
Numbers and structure
Currently, over 8 thousand of employees work at PKP Intercity SA structures all around Poland. The main seat of the Company – Headquarters are located in Warsaw. Apart from the Headquarters, there are four Establishments with seats in Krakow (Southern Establishment), Poznań (Western Establishment), Gdynia (Northern Establishment), and in Warsaw (Central Establishment). In these Establishments the following are separated: sections, hubs of traction units and so-called places of maintaining traction and car rolling stock.

Mobile PKP Intercity application on smartphones – using it you can search a connection, check punctuality of trains and it can also help you arrive at the station.
Offer "Earlier"
We permanently promote clients buying tickets in advance. For a purchase at least seven days before travel – a discount of 10 percent. Second level of discounts is binding since April – a ticket at least 15 days earlier – minus 15 percent.
Simply a TICKET
While buying, each passenger instead of a ticket and a separate seat reservation obtains one form on which a seating place is indicated.
Afternoon at the station
On Easter Monday journalists of a radio station "Trójka" and other famous artists act as megaphone operators at stations. The trains are announced by, among others: Wojciech Mann, Marek Niedźwiedzki, Magda Umer, Anna Maria Jopek and Hanna Banaszak.

2014
Locomotive simulator
Bid on a supplier of a locomotive simulator is resolved. Train drivers shall start practising on a modern device at the end of 2014. The order is worth over PLN 5 million. Some resources on the investment’s realisation shall come from Union funds.
Wi-Fi and multimedia on trains
PKP Intercity signs a contract with T-Mobile, thanks to which passengers in 300 cars shall be able to surf on the Internet and watch films.
New things on the website
Search engine of ticket offices and an application for persons buying group travels - such conveniences for passengers are introduced on the Intercity's website.
Another “EZs”
Until the end of October 2015 Pesa Bydgoszcz shall deliver 20 electric traction units (EZT) that shall operate on routes Jelenia Góra - Wrocław - Łódź – Warsaw - Białystok/Lublin and Białystok/Lublin - Warsaw - Koluszki - Częstochowa - Katowice - Bielsko Biała.

PKP Intercity is collecting from FPS H.Cegielski a number of new carriages for the route Wrocław - Gdynia.
EDiths in fine colours
During periodic repairs a batch of ED74s have been repainted to colours in keeping with the official PKP Intercity scheme.
Stonkas like new
Newag has handed over the first of 20 modernized diesel locomotives of the SM42 type, also known by the Polish name for the Colorado beetle – stonka. These are to pull passenger trains on non-electrified lines and assist in shunting.
ICBus on the way
PKP Intercity has set up express bus connections, seasonal during the holidays on the routes Malbork - Krynica Morska and Krakow / Rzeszów - Ustrzyki Górne, and also running between Warsaw and Białystok while a railway line linking them is being renovated.
We like big-spenders...
... but we also help them save. Intercity has prepared a campaign to promote the purchase of tickets in advance, in line with the principle 'earlier = cheaper'.
Express Intercity Premium takes to the tracks
On 14 December, punctually at 6.05 am, the first Express InterCity Premium set off between Krakow and Warsaw. Trains in this category are coming into service on routes linking the Tricity, Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice and Wrocław.
A new InterCity category
On 14 December PKP Intercity also introduced a new InterCity (IC) category, which – thanks to EU subsidization – is composed of modern, comfortable and safe fast trains.
2015
“Senior’s Ticket” on offer
From April, every passenger over 60 years of age can receive a discount of 30 percent. The offer is valid on all domestic PKP Intercity trains, including Pendolino.
Simulator already in operation
From May, PKP Intercity drivers can train on a modern engine simulator. The project has been carried out in cooperation with the Office of the Marshal of Mazowieckie Province and the Railway Institute. The amount of the investment is nearly PLN 5.4 million.
1,000,000th passenger of Pendolino
On 19 May, we hosted 1,000,000th passenger onboard the EIP train from Kraków to Warsaw.
Cheaper to cities and towns
From 28 May, our offer includes “Cut-Rate City Ticket”. Prices on TLK and IC trains on 13 popular routes have been reduced.
“Ticket Thursdaymania” launched
As part of our promotional offer, on each Thursday starting from 17 September we offer a large pool of the cheapest tickets for selected EIP and EIC trains.
“Book on a journey”
As part of the campaign that promoted reading as a valuable leisure activity, from 15 September passengers of PKP Intercity could make use of free e-books and discounts for purchase of books.
For weekend journeys
Weekend tickets are now available in online sales, with the names of tickets for multiple rides changed. New “Weekend Ticket” and “Weekend Ticket MAX” are on sale from 22 September.
Flirts on tracks
With the introduction of the new annual schedule, FLIRT3 trains appeared on tracks on 13 December.
2016
Easier online
In February, new improvements were introduced to the online sales system, enabling passengers to purchase online tickets for bicycles, non-standard baggage or their pupils.
Darts on tracks
In March, following the strict testing procedures, the acceptance of all 20 PesaDART trains ordered by PKP Intercity was concluded.
Assessment of purchases
Also in March, the company summed up its investment programme of PLN 5.5 billion. As part of the projects, new FLIRT3 and PesaDART trains, carriages and engines were purchased and the existing rolling stock was updated. All the investments were co-financed with EU funds.
More quietly in Pendolino
From April, all Express InterCity Premium (EIP) trains include the Quiet Zone in carriage no. 7, i.e. a place for passengers who avoid noise and respect that others also want to travel in peace and quiet.
Longer routes of Pendolino
From 29 April, Express InterCity Premium trains go to Kołobrzeg and Jelenia Góra.
Assistance within arm's reach
From July, each Pendolino train is equipped with a defibrillator AED Plus. These life saving appliances have been placed in specially marked casings in carriage no. 2, next to carriages for carers with children.
PKP Intercity for the WYD
Quality, comfort, safety, great atmosphere and a special offer – the pride of PKP Intercity during the World Youth Days. 146 carriages and more than 40 engines have been modernized for this event. Onboard the company’s trains, 250,000 pilgrims got to the meeting with the Holy Father. Additional 45 trains to Kraków and Częstochowa were launched. The 374-meter long train, consisting of two ED250 units, set off on its first journey.
New opening of Colour Cards
A monthly ticket has been introduced, the surcharge for Express InterCity Premium (EIP) trains has been abolished, and also the presale period has been extended.
Remtrak – Stage 1 completed
In November, the first stage of modernization of the technical facilities of Zakład Usług Taborowych REMTRAK in Idzikowice was concluded. The amount of the investment exceeds PLN 10 million.
Savoir-vivre on board
In November, public consultation on attitudes and behaviour which hinder sharing trains by passengers was concluded. The result was “the Code of Good Travelling Manners”.
2017
One transactions, multiple discounts
From March, passengers of PKP Intercity, when buying tickets online, may receive various discounts within one transaction.
Onboard magazine in a new format
In June, available on trains and in the Customer Service Centres, the monthly “W Podróż z PKP Intercity” took on a new format, graphic design and subjects in order to provide passengers with even more useful information and entertainment.
Hotline on the new telephone number
A new PKP Intercity Hotline number was launched in July. Details of the timetable, offers or how to plan a journey with a disabled person can be obtained by dialling 703 200 200.
Let’s explore Poland together!
In July, PKP Intercity and POLREGIO introduced a shared offer enabling you to take an unlimited number of weekend trips on trains of the both carriers.
A new ticket offer Promo
From 1 August, another pool of tickets with discounts was entered into the sales system. The new presale offer Promo lets you reduce your costs of travelling on express trains even by 55 percent.
Traveller’s package
From September, you can buy tickets anywhere in Poland for trains of the three carriers – PKP Intercity, POLREGIO and PKP SKM in the Tricity – on a single form.
Engine of the future
On 27 September, PKP Intercity, Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz and Instytut Pojazdów Szynowych “Tabor” signed a research and development cooperation agreement as part of the dual drive engine construction project. It will be the first Polish construction of this kind.
For passengers with disabilities
In October, detailed procedures for organizing travels of persons with disabilities were introduced. A train locator adapted to the needs of passengers with disabilities and a tab with required information can now be found at intercity.pl.
Friend of Integration medal…
…PKP Intercity received this honourable distinction from the Integration Foundation for its activities aimed at passengers with disabilities.
Indirect tickets online
From November, you can purchase indirect tickets at intercity.pl. Also, the night maintenance break in the online sales system has been shortened.
Train occupancy – also available online
Passengers who purchase tickets at intercity.pl can now also check how popular the tickets for individual trains are and select less occupied connections.
Remtrak – Stage 2 completed
On 12 December, the grand opening of a production hall and specialist workshops of Zakład Usług Taborowych Remtrak took place in Idzikowice. This is a result of the completion of Stage 2 of the modernization of PKP IC technical facilities. The cost of the investment amounted to PLN 9 million.
High Investment Railway
In December, PKP Intercity updated its rolling stock strategy 2016–2020 with the perspective to 2023. The company will allocate over PLN 7 billion for the modernization and purchase of rolling stock.
2018
Modernity in the NCRD
On 21 February, PKP Intercity and the National Centre for Research and Development signed a letter of intent regarding joint implementation of projects as part of the governmental programme Luxtorpeda 2.0. The result should be modern and innovative trains.
EU funds for investments
In April, PKP Intercity signed an agreement with the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP) to support the project entitled “Railway for good connections - modernization of carriages and engines for PKP Intercity” with the amount of PLN 402 million.
PESA to modernize carriages
Also in April, the company signed two agreements with PESA Bydgoszcz regarding the modernization of 123 passenger carriages with a right of option for additional 62 cars. The gross value of the contract is PLN 477 million, and if the right of option is used – more than PLN 718 million.
Media exposure
In May, an image campaign “Thousands of reasons to travel” was launched.
Even more modernized carriages…
On 10 May, an agreement regarding the modernization of 10 first class carriages was signed with the consortium ZNTK „Mińsk Mazowiecki” and Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz, acting as PESA Group. The gross value of the contract – over PLN 41 million.
New locomotives
NEWAG will supply 20 new electrical locomotives. Signed in May, the contract amounts to over PLN 367 million gross.
We bring forward the co-financing
In June, another agreement with the CEUTP was concluded. The co-financing of the project entitled “We accelerate comfortably - modernization of carriages and purchase of engines for PKP Intercity S.A.” will amount to PLN 251 million.
The Independent on rails (and more)
PKP Intercity actively joined the celebration of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland. In July, the white and red locomotives with occasional graphics, as well as Flirts and Darts with a label “Independent” – digitally refreshed manuscript by marshal Józef Piłsudski – appeared on railway tracks. In November, the PKP Intercity anniversary mural was unveiled in the Warsaw district Powiśle.
Pendolino online
On 28 August, PKP Intercity and Alstom signed an agreement on installation of Wi-Fi devices on Express InterCity Premium (EIP) trains. The contract amounts to PLN 31.7 million and also includes the technical maintenance for 5 years. The first train equipped with the wireless Internet was launched in December.
Option for carriages from Poznań…
In October, the agreement with H. Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych in Poznań (signed in November 2017) was extended to cover the modernization of 60 carriages. PKP Intercity ordered additional 30 modernized vehicles.
…and Bydgoszcz
In November, PKP Intercity used its right of option to modernize 163 carriages from PESA Bydgoszcz. Additionally, modernization of 82 vehicles was ordered, and the total order amount exceeded PLN 1 billion.
2019
Rail Development Congress
On January 23, the 1st Rail Development Congress “Future and Perspectives” organised jointly by PKP SA, PKP Intercity, PKP Cargo and PLK, took place at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. During the event, decision-makers, public opinion leaders, representatives of social organisations, scientific community and local authorities raised the most important topics for railways, passengers and customers.
Cegielski to modernise restaurant cars
On February 15, PKP Intercity signed a contract with H. Cegielski - FPS for modernisation of 10 restaurant cars. The value of the contract is PLN 61.3 million.
Good financial standing of PKP Intercity
On March 27, rating agency Fitch confirmed PKP Intercity’s long-term domestic and foreign currency rating at BBB+ and long-term national rating at AA (Pol.), with the ratings’ outlook defined as stable.
Installation of meters in vehicles
On April 16, PKP Intercity signed a contract with SESTO Sp. z o.o. worth PLN 5.8 million for the supply, installation and commissioning of DC electricity meters in rail traction units of the Company. “Metering” enables paying for actual energy consumption, improving driving efficiency, and determining how much energy is being put back into the grid.
New train wash station in Grochów
On April 11, PKP Intercity and Agat concluded a contract for the delivery and installation of a rolling stock wash station. This is the first stage of the investment project, thanks to which a year-round automatic wash station that meets the highest environmental standards will be launched on the Warszawa-Grochów siding. The value of the contract is PLN 7.4 million.
Additional rolling stock from Cegielski
On May 30, along with the extension of the contract for the purchase of 55 modern cars, signed in February 2018 with H. Cegielski – FPS, PKP Intercity ordered 26 additional vehicles. The contract value thus increased from PLN 473.5 million to PLN 697.3 million.

On 23 May, Zakład Usług Taborowych Remtrak belonging to PKP Intercity proudly announced the change of name to PKP Intercity Remtrak Sp. z o.o. At the same time, the third stage of modernisation of the branch in Idzikowice was initiated, including the construction of a new repair hall for locomotives and cars along with a trolley hall and a wheel sets repair hall.
Upgrade of locomotives
On June 14, H. Cegielski - FPS was selected as the contractor for periodic repair at the fifth level of maintenance (P5), along with the modernisation of thirteen SM42 diesel shunting locomotives. The value of the contract is PLN 90.3 million.
ED74 units back on tracks
On June 27, PKP Intercity signed a contract with the consortium of companies Pojazdy Szynowe PESA and the Zakłady Naprawcze Taboru Kolejowego “Mińsk Mazowiecki”, whose object is to perform periodic repair at the fifth maintenance level (P5), along with modernisation of the 14 electric multiple units (EMUs) of ED74 series. The value of the contract is PLN 274.8 million.
Record contract for new trains
On July 11, Stadler Polska was selected as the contractor of the order for 12 new EMUs along with the provision of maintenance services (at P1–P4 levels for 15 years). The value of the contract is PLN 1.015 million.
Supporting the mObywatel application
Since July, PKP Intercity has been supporting the free public mobile application mObywatel aboard its trains. It allows travellers to confirm their identity using a smartphone.
More new locomotives
On September 24, the contract for the purchase of 20 new electric locomotives was extended, which PKP Intercity signed in May 2018 with NEWAG S.A. An additional 10 state-of-the-art electric locomotives of the Griffin series were ordered – a total of 20 units. The value of the extended contract is PLN 551.4 million.
Additional funds for investments
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed an agreement with PKP Intercity for financing the long-term investment programme. A loan in the amount of PLN 1 billion (EUR 233 million), granted on September 12, will enable the Company to finance projects under the programme titled “PKP Intercity – The Railway of Big Investments”, including the purchase of new rolling stock and modernisation of existing vehicles.
Wi-Fi available on Pendolino trains
Since November 27, travellers can use Wi-Fi in all 19 available Pendolino trains (installation in the last, 20th train, which undergoes repair in Italy, will take place once the train is back to Poland).
Launch of graphical reservation of places
In November, PKP Intercity launched yet another functionality for travellers in its on-line sales system. Passengers of Pendolino, Flirt3 and PesaDART can now easily select seats on the map of a given train unit.
Record result of passenger carriage service
PKP Intercity ended 2019 with nearly 49 million passengers carried onboard its trains.
2020
New conductors’ payment terminals
PKP Intercity equips conductor teams with new mobile terminals. Their new functionalities will improve passenger service experience on board trains.
Tackling the aftermath of the pandemic
Overnight from March 13 to 14, the first changes were introduced to the international route network, and on March 15, all international routes were suspended. As of March 17, the first changes to the domestic route network took effect. The number of PKP Intercity trains in operation was adjusted to the current demand.
Since March 20, PKP Intercity has participated in a project organised by the Polish Government and LOT Polish Airlines, launching special trains from the Chopin Airport in Warsaw for persons arriving in Poland with charter aircraft organised by PLL LOT. The connections in four directions: Przemyśl, Bielsko-Biała, Wrocław and Kołobrzeg were operated until April 5. During 17 days of participation in the #LOTdoDom campaign, PKP Intercity operated 68 runs from Warsaw Chopin Airport station, with a total of 3171 travellers.
Connections to be partially resumed
Since the beginning of May, some of the PKP Intercity trains that were cancelled so far due to the coronavirus epidemic have been returning on the tracks. Pendolino trains return on the tracks on May 22.
Introduction of mandatory reservation of seats in all categories of trains following the COVID epidemic and restrictions on the number of passengers carried in public transport: Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK), InterCity (IC), Express InterCity (EIC) and as before Express InterCity Premium (EIP).
Following the opening of borders for train operations, PKP Intercity is resuming international trains from June 22, 2020.
New rolling stock in PKP Intercity
The carrier’s fleet has just been expanded with 20 of Poland’s state-of-the-art Griffin electric locomotives, which have been hitting the tracks since July.
PKP Intercity received 83 cars which were modernised for the carrier by PESA from Bydgoszcz.
New train wash station in Wrocław
PKP Intercity signed with Mostostal Warsaw a contract worth over PLN 30 million for the design and construction of a pro-ecological automatic train wash station in Wrocław.
