In June this year in our country begins holiday period
and the final tournament of the UEFA European Football Championship. It will be
a period of increased passenger traffic in railway. Therefore, PKP Intercity will
provide additional trains to tourist destinations and 50 additional trains that
will take football fans to and from matches. Apart from that, the company will
increase the number of trains under full seat reservation and the number of
tickets available in Super Ticket offer. During Euro the PKP PLK infrastructure
manager will reduce the intensity of the work and, therefore, selected trains
will go faster. Some trains will continue to run detours.
In June PKP Intercity will provide, apart from regular
trains and trains prepared for Euro 2012, additional holiday connections to
tourist destinations. In the international offer there will be a daily train
from Gdynia to Berlin “Berlin Gdynia Express”. The TLK train “Kormoran”, which
route was previously from Olsztyn to Katowice will have an extended route as
far as to Bielsko Biała and passengers travelling to Gorzów Wielkopolski will
get there by Lubuszanin train through Poznań.
The arrival and departure time of trains will also be
changed. For example EIC “Kościuszko” train from Warszawa Centralna (Warsaw
Central Station) to Kraków will departure two hours earlier than previously
i.e. at 06.35. Due to little interest, “Alois Negrelli”- a direct train
from Szczecin to Prague will operate only till June. “Neptun”, “Jantar” and
“Kaszub” trains from Warszawa to Gdynia will stop at Kutno railway station.
In connection with the modernization of the selected
railway lines led by the infrastructure manager which is PKP Polskie Linie
Kolejowe, there will be some changes in
the traffic organization of some PKP Intercity trains. Some will operate on
changed routes or connections and some will run detour.
The following trains will operate again on its regular
routes:
• Ex “Słowacki”
train Warszawa - Wrocław – Warszawa,
• Ex “Klimczok” train Bielsko
Biała – Gdynia – Bielsko Biała,
• Ex “Lajkonik” train Kraków
- Gdynia-Kraków,
• TLK “Bieszczady”
train Przemyśl – Wrocław – Przemyśl.
Changes in timetables will also concern trains operating
between Łódź and Warsaw. The TLK ‘Soplica’ train from Warszawa Wschodnia to
Łódź Kaliska will be cancelled. There will be 15 pairs of trains from and
to Łódź altogether.
“We decided to increase the
number of tickets in Super Ticket offer since June. We want to encourage passengers to purchase
tickets via internet and to plan their journeys in advance as it is in case of,
e.g. airlines. The sooner you buy a ticket, the cheaper it is. We also want to
encourage passengers to travel by higher class trains and show that the standard
of travelling is changing and becoming increasingly higher” – said Małgorzata Sitkowska, PKP Intercity spokesperson.
The Passengers travelling from Warsaw to Gdańsk by
Neptun, Norwid and Kaszub trains will pay for a ticket up to 50% less than
before. PKP Intercity, due to ongoing repairs, decided to change the category
of the trains operating on this route from Express and Express InterCity to
Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK). Although the ticket price will be much lower, these
trains will still consist of the
first-class cars. All trains will require full seat reservations and the
cost of a seat instead of 16 or PLN 12.50 will be PLN 5. In Neptun, Kaszub and
Norwid trains statutory discounts and TLK promotions will apply.
Since the 1 June, 2012, PKP Intercity will increase the number of Twoje
Linie Kolejowe (TLK) trains which are under full seat reservation to 68 additional
trains. Most of them are night connections operating on long distances and to
costal and mountain towns. Altogether, passengers of 82 TLK trains who will buy
a seat will have a guaranteed seat. Compulsory seat reservation applies in all
categories of Express (Ex) and Express InterCity (EIC) trains, and since the 1
June, 2011 also in the first class of TLK trains. It is also worth nothing that
all additional trains provided by PKP Intercity which will operate from and to
matches during UEFA European Football Championship will also be under full seat
reservation.
