After piloting the full reservation, which took place
at the turn of 2011/2012 in eight TLK trains, the Board of PKP Intercity decided to
preserved the reservation and extend it in other trains. “We conduct a range of
activities aimed at improving the standards of travelling in our trains - in
recent months we have increased significantly
the number of cars, it is possible to see the estimated turnout on our
website, and by extending compulsory reservation in the second class in
additional trains every passenger who chooses such train will have an assigned
seat ” – underlines Małgorzata
Sitkowska, the Spokesperson for PKP Intercity.
Full train reservation allows PKP Intercity for better
management of its rolling stock resources in situations of increased demand, e.g.
during holiday trips, by continuously monitoring the turnout in the trains, the
carrier can strengthen the trains with additional cars. It is worth
noticing that full, compulsory seat reservation will apply in 54 trains
provided by PKP Intercity for travel to matches and returns during the UEFA
European Football Championship.
Tickets with seats in TLK trains under full seat
reservation are available in a ticket office and internet pre-sale 30 days
before the journey. If all available seats are sold out, only upon the passenger's
request, the cashier may issue a ticket along with the statement that there are
no seats left. The cost of a seat in class 1 and 2 in the TLK trains is PLN 5.
Compulsory seat reservation applies in all categories of Express (Ex) and
Express InterCity (EIC) trains, and since the 1st of June 2011 also
in the first class of TLK trains.
In TLK trains under full seat reservation people with
long-term tickets or network tickets may travel without a seat, taking a free
seat until the passenger with reservation appears. If they want to have
guaranteed seat they should purchase a seat earlier.
From April PKP Intercity offers the passengers
travelling to Trójmiasto (Tricity) by Neptun, Norwid or Kaszub trains tickets
cheaper up to 48%. The carrier, due to ongoing repairs, decided to change the
category of the trains operating to/from Tricity on this route from Express and
Express InterCity to Twoje Linie Kolejowe (TLK). Although the ticket price will
be much lower, these trains will still consist of the first-class cars. All
trains will require full seat reservations and the cost of a seat instead of PLN
16 or PLN 12.50 will be PLN 5. In Neptun, Kaszub and Norwid trains statutory
discounts and TLK promotions will apply.
More information on compulsory seat reservation and
timetable is available on www.intercity.pl website and at information points. People
who do not have access to internet may obtain information dialing the number of Infolinia Kolejowa Intercity (Intercity Call Center).
