The central point of the capital city of Lower Silesia is Rynek (The Market Square) with the Old Town Hall which is one of the oldest architectural objects of this kind in Poland.
As in Poznan, also in Wroclaw, on the island of Ostrów Tumski, there are important places for the history of this city. Gothic church of St. Cross with the Archdiocesan Museum with magnificent sacred art collections and the Gothic cathedral of St. John the Baptist impresses with their soaring towers.
In Wroclaw you can go back in time and visit an eighteenth-century battlefield at Racławice. Just visit the Racławice Panorama – a monumental cycloramic painting depicting the battle of Racławice during the Kościuszko Uprising.
Lower Silesia can take you straight to the Black Continent with the Africarium located at the Wroclaw zoological garden.
