Transport of bicycles
All you need to know if you want to take your bike with you on the train - how, on which trains and at what price?
We strive to take care of cyclists, so that they can move freely on trains with their monorails, but at the same time we expect them to respect the rules of transporting a bike on the train. If you want to travel on the train hassle-free with your much-loved bike - just read our guide.
Is the transport of your bicycle paid?
Yes, the transportation of bikes is free of charge. However, you must attend your bike at all times based on the bike ticket. The fee for such a ticket is a flat-rate fee and is PLN 9.10, regardless of the length of the route.
Can I carry a bicycle on any train?
Not any.
Bikes can be carried only on trains that feature bike-dedicated areas. In order to check whether this option is available on the train of your choice, please check the location of coaches (Polish version) or a relevant marking in the train schedule. In a selected location of coaches, after selecting your destination, trains with proper markings will be displayed; similarly, they will be displayed in the train timetable, after selecting a given connection, the markings are also located on each train. A bike icon (in a circle or without it) visible in a given location of coaches means that a bike carriage service is available on that train. The bike symbol also indicates an area dedicated for bikes.
Where to place your bicycle?
1. In TLK and IC train second class sitting cars:
- adjusted to transport of bicycles, at a place designed for that purpose, or
- in the first vestibule of the first coach or in the last vestibule of the last coach in the train if bikes are allowed to be transported in the vestibule in that train
2. In an Express Intercity (EIC) and Express Intercity Premium (EIP) train:
- exclusively in second class cars adjusted to transport of bicycles, in the place allocated to this purpose – provided, of course, that there are unoccupied places allocated for bicycle transport in a given train.
Where should a bicycle not stand?
In areas not designed for that purpose and in restaurant cars, sleeping cars and couchettes.
I haven't notified a ticket inspector of the bicycle being transported - what to do?
If you failed to buy a ticket before your trip, please inform the inspector before or immediately after boarding the train of your intention to transport your bike. For transporting the bike on board the EIP train, you have to buy a ticket before the trip as we do not sell them on the train.
We would like to remind you that when buying a ticket from the inspector, apart from a bike transport fee, we charge a boarding fee of 20 PLN.
However, if you have not notified the inspector of your intention to transport the bike, then - in addition to the fee of 9.10 PLN for transporting the bike - we will charge an extra fee due under the ordinance of the Ministry of Infrastructure of 20 January 2005. The fee is then 52 PLN, and if you refuse to pay it, we will issue a notice - a protocol with an additional fee of PLN 300. If you pay the fee within 14 days from the date of the notice - the extra fee will be reduced to PLN 75.
