Kraków Płaszów Railway Station

Organisation of departures from Cracow after the World Youth Day

On 31 July and 1 August, there will be a change in the organisation of pedestrian traffic at Kraków Główny and Kraków Płaszów railway stations and in their vicinity. This temporary traffic organisation will apply from 2 p.m. on Sunday [31/07] to 2 p.m. on the next day (Monday).

For passengers travelling from the Kraków Główny station, the so-called ‘buffer zones’ [pilgrims muster stations] have been arranged:

  • from the direction of Jan Nowak-Jeziorański square [departures towards the north: Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław (via Częstochowa, Lubiniec)];
  • from the direction of Ibis Hotel [departures towards the east: Rzeszów, Przemyśl, Wieliczka and towards the west: Katowice, Gliwice, Wrocław (via Katowice)].

The entry to the Kraków Główny station from Lubicz Street will be unavailable. The tunnels nearby the station will also be withdrawn from service.

A similar zone will be set up at the Kraków Płaszów station.

The aim of these zones is to efficiently direct pilgrims to the right trains. Therefore, please be sure to arrive at these stations at about an hour before the scheduled departure.

Rules for movement around the Kraków Główny and Kraków Płaszów stations

Movement of groups of travellers around the buffer zones/stations/platforms will take place in stages and with assistance of the police and the Railway Security Service.

Pilgrims will be initially grouped in the buffer zones. Then, groups of people will walk to the so-called ‘queue zone’ in order to wait until they enter the platform in the company of the Railway Security Service.

Information on successive trains currently being prepared for departure will be displayed on large outdoor screens in front of the stations.

Besides policing services, mobile guides will also support the pilgrims.

Between 31 July and 1 August, we encourage you to take particular care and to get acquainted with markings in order to ensure smooth pedestrian traffic around the railway facilities.
